International Driver's License (IDL) or International Driving Permit (IDP) is not adopted by China, China's traffic law indicates that foreigners can only drive in China with an official Chinese Driving Licenses and the International Driver's Permit (IDP) can be converted to a local Chinese Driving License, by passed an additional examination (Subject 1).
If you would like to rent a car in China cities, you need to show your valid Chinese drivers license, otherwise you will need to hire a driver from the car rental company.
If you obtained the Chinese Driving License for first time, its validity period would be 6 years long; you need renew your Chinese Driving License with 90 days before it get expired, and then you will get a new Driving License that valid for 10 years long.
